It was at a RoVaCon in 1984 that Jerry met Admiral Sue Bolick, and then Commodore Linda Neighbors; Sue of US Alaric, and Linda of the recently-commissioned USS Heimdal. Within a few months, Jerry was a member of the Heimdal's crew.
From the time Jerry attended his first Heimdal meeting and took OTS (Starfleet's Command Training Program), there was a specific plan in place as to what the group's goals were. To that end, shortly into their early pre-shuttlecraft steps (a shuttlecraft is what Starfleet calls its probationary chapters- a full chapter is a ship, a probationary one a shuttlecraft), the Yeager's prospective crew got in touch with their namesake, General Charles E. "Chuck" Yeager, and got his permission, through his wife Glennis, to use his name for their chapter.
So, in September of 1985, at a ceremony at Bluefield State College replete with a full meal and a commissioning ceremony which included a color guard running up the Federation flag, the Shuttlecraft "Glamorous Glennis", NCC-1793/2, second shuttlecraft of the USS Heimdal, was placed into service. Just over a year later, Commander Conner was ordered to return to Spacedock to take command of USS Yeager, Miranda-class starship NCC-1893.
Through Commodore Neighbors leadership, a strong sense of civic responsibility was instilled in the members of Yeager. Follow the links below to get more information on some of the Yeager's public service projects.
